About Ryan

Ryan Gilbert is a 5th generation resident of District 1. His mother, Sarah Gilbert is a teacher at Baker School and his father, Randy, works for the Division of Forestry in Munson. Ryan attended Crestview High School, and as a senior served as Drum Major and Student Body President. Following high school Gilbert attended Okaloosa Walton College and earned his Associates degree. While at OWC, Ryan served as the Legislative Liaison for the OWC Student Government Association as a student advisor to the OWC President’s Council.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Ryan enrolled at the University of Florida where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and went on to pursue a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning.

While in college, Ryan was actively involved with extra curricular and civic activities. He was an active member in his church, rowed for the UF Men’s Crew and participated in the local American Planning Association Chapter. Ryan made it a point to keep up with issues at the national, state and local level. Gilbert is a graduate of the Leadership Institute, an organization dedicated to training young leaders to become public servants.

In 2007 Ryan married his high school sweetheart, Jhanna Crutchfield. Jhanna is also from the panhandle and is currently working for the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) coordinating agricultural conferences throughout the state. Her father, Reggie Crutchfield, is a farmer in the Baker area and her mother, Regina Crutchfield, is a speech pathologist for the schools of Okaloosa County. Ryan and Jhanna have two dogs; Harley a five-year-old dachshund and Liberty (Libby) a one-year-old vizsla.

Ryan’s work experience is in community planning. He has worked with surveyors, engineers and architects and has acquired multi-disciplinary knowledge related to the industry. Through his education and work experience, Ryan has become very familiar with Florida’s Growth Management laws and is the ideal candidate to make improvements to the planning process to ensure continued economic growth in District 1.

In order to be a strong voice for District 1 our representative must be enthusiastic and motivated. Ryan Gilbert is the ideal candidate for our area. He is knowledgeable about the issues facing District 1 and the process by which to address them. Most importantly he is available to listen to the concerns of District 1and is capable of being the strong representative voice for our area.
